A Billion Volts of Death in Every Finger! THE PROJECTED MAN to Blu-ray from Scream Factory in January

A Billion Volts of Death in Every Finger! THE PROJECTED MAN to Blu-ray from Scream Factory in January

It looks like another longtime ExB favorite is heading to Blu-ray, courtesy Shout! Factory’s dependable genre imprint Scream Factory. The Projected Man wasn’t exactly a staple of early ’90s television syndication, but it cropped up frequently enough to capture this child’s imagination. For years I hunted for it on video store shelves, unaware that it had simply never seen release here.

Now nearly 20 years from the film’s appearance on the Sci-Fi Channel run of Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Projected Man will finally be getting its due on home video – and in high definition no less. Scream will be sourcing a new 2k scan of the film, which is excellent news all around. Past iterations (VHS and DVD from the UK) have been presented wide, but still cropped down from the film’s original 2.35:1 Techniscope ratio, while the film played US television in cramped 4:3. To my knowledge, this should be the first time The Projected Man has reached video in its native aspect ratio.

Details of the Scream Factory disc are still in process, but a release date of January 30th has been set. Preorder is already available through the Shout! Factory store, and should be up at Amazon, Diabolik DVD and elsewhere soon enough.
