S.O.S. Tidal Wave surges to Blu-ray from Olive in October

Olive Films dives deep into the Republic archives for this quickie thriller from 1939, notable for its wholesale plundering of the monumental disaster footage from R.K.O.’s ill-fated 1933 apocalypse drama Deluge. That film was pulled from circulation as part of Republic’s contract to buy its effects footage, and was nearly lost in the process.

The footage’s use here is conceptually interesting, at least, in that it represents a hoax rather than an actual disaster, a scheme by a corrupt mayoral candidate to close out the polls with a panic-inducing spoof broadcast. S.O.S. Tidal Wave stars Ralph Byrd, George Barbier, and Kay Sutton, and debuts in HD in all its hour-long glory on October 31st.

Pre-orders are live now through Movies Unlimited, and should be available soon through Amazon.
